Milestones

1978

  • First exhibition hall managed by PSA Corp opens at World Trade Centre (WTC).

1990 - 1998

  • The Harbour Pavilion is built to accommodate concerts and musical performances.
  • Events reach a peak at WTC, attracting five million visitors annually.

1999

2000 - 2004

  • A divestment from PSA Corp leads to the formation of Singex, a subsidiary of Temasek Holdings.
  • IMDEX Asia, the region's premier maritime defense exhibition, is established.
  • EXPO takes top position with 75 per cent of the MICE market share in Singapore.
  • Singex is appointed to manage SITEX, Singapore's longest-running consumer IT and electronics exhibition.

2005

  • With the opening of four additional convention-exhibition halls, EXPO grows to 123,000sqm of indoor and outdoor event space, becoming the largest purpose-built MICE venue in Singapore.

2006 - 2009

  • Singex is awarded ISO 9001.
  • Singex partners Tianjin TEDA Group to manage Binhai International Convention and Exhibition Centre in Tianjin, China.
  • Singex partners Qatar Foundation to establish Qatar MICE Development Institute in Doha, Qatar.
  • EXPO is voted third Best Convention/Exhibition Centre in Asia Pacific by readers of CEI Asia, one of the region's leading MICE trade publications.

2010

  • EXPO is recognised as a Business Superbrand.
  • SITEX records its highest visitorship of 900,000 at EXPO.

2011 and beyond

  • Singex pursues the twin businesses of venue management and event solutions, fostering key partnerships in Singapore and internationally.
  • EXPO becomes the only MICE venue in Asia to be certified in business management continuity, as Singex achieves British Standard (BS) 25999 and Singapore Standard (SS) 540.
  • Singex wins the event management contract for WasteMET Asia.
  • MAX Atria, the convention wing at EXPO, becomes the only MICE venue in Singapore to be certified Green Mark Platinum by Singapore's Building and Construction Authority.
  • MAX Atria is set to redefine the regional MICE landscape in early 2012, as it features 32 rooms, spacious foyers and rooftop space amidst a green environment for a multitude of business and special events.
